Information reaching CrossRiverWatch suggests that one person has been shot dead by unknown gunmen at the gate close to the University of Calabar power house.
According to an eyewitness, the shooting occurred at about 15:48 Hours (3:48 PM) local time when an unknown gunman moved behind a group of three men walking and shot one dead.
“Three guys were walking and another guy just came from behind, pulled a pistol and shot one of them dead,” the eyewitness said.
The shooter is said to have ran away with another man who was holding a pistol and standing at the gate.
“The trouble began yesterday at Malabor (the moniker for the central students meeting point) with these gang boys and then they settled only for it to start today again,” said Mary (not actual name) a student residing in the hostel.
She said the hostels have been locked down with Homeland Security (a security outfit comprising of the Army, Police and NSCDC) are currently patrolling the campus.
Also, she said the students are terrified as the chase after the suspected killers whose accomplices are said to have ran through malabo, the female hostel and into the bush also saw an exchange of gun fire.
