A trusted ally of Governor Ben Ayade and former Chairman of the Cross River State Universal Education Board, Stephen Odey says he has not defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Odey disclosed this in a telephone conversation with our newsroom when contacted to confirm whether he joined Governor Ben Ayade whom he described as his “boss,” to defect from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“I did not defect, I was only there because he (Ayade) is my boss so I have to attend, I did not defect thank you,” Odey said when contacted on Thursday morning.
Mr. Ayade defected on Thursday to the APC with dozens gathered to witness the announcement. It followed hours of meetings with APC bigwigs.
Reports had suggested that Mr. Odey who served as an aide to Mr. Ayade in the seventh National Assembly, had, alongside two federal lawmakers, Legor Idagbo and Mike Etaba had joined him.
CrossRiverWatch has reached out to Messrs Legor and Etaba for comments.
