Exam Malpractices : Cross River to Close Down Miracle Centers

The activities of some schools who engage in examination malpractices by creating special centers were students pay huge unapproved amounts to get desirable results, popularly known as ‘miracle centers’ have been put under watch, crossriverwatch can authoritatively report.

State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Offiong Offiong who disclosed this in Calabar during a stakeholders meeting with the management of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) said any school found wanting over such examination misconduct will be closed down.

Offiong who said that was the position of the State government on the illegal act said the monitoring department of the ministry will deploy officers who will keep an eye on all the approved examination centers and those termed as ‘miracle centers’ in the state.

He said with the huge investment of the state government in the education sector by the Imoke administration, the state will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the results of the products of secondary schools in the State are on merit.

The Commissioner solicited for the cooperation of WAEC and other examination bodies in the state to key into this vision, stressing that the fight against examination malpractice should be the business of all stakeholders.

“The state government’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice must be a total fight. Some schools especially in the rural areas are being described as ‘miracle centers’, as they give room for malpractices; we will not tolerate it”, he said.

Earlier the branch controller of the West African Examination Council, WAEC, Mr. Babatunde Fadahunsi said, WAEC is ready to partner with the state to tackle examination malpractice in Cross River State.

Fadahunsi vowed that any candidate, staff or supervisor caught perpetrating any act of examination malpractice will be made to face the full weight of the law.
