NUJ Press Week Starts in Calabar

Monday, 25th November, 2013, members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Cross River State chapter kick started the press week activities with a city walk across major streets in the state capital, Calabar.

Mr. Omini Oden, the Chairman of the Press Week told CrossRiverWatch that the city walk which started at the U J Esuene Sports Stadium through Barracks Road down to the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Center at 3rd Avenue State Housing is to prove to the public that journalists do not only know how to push the pen and microphones but are also in good health condition to carry out other activities.

He said the city walk formally kick starts the activities of the press week which has a number of events lined up which include sporting events like football, tennis, scrabble, chess amongst the various chapels in the state to keep them physically and intellectually fit.

Mr. Oden said the press week activities also include a public lecture on the topic: National Dialogue: Consolidating on Nigeria’s Unity with Chief Kanu Agabi as the keynote speaker .

Other speakers on the topic include Senator Victor Ndoma Egba, Nigeria’s Senate Leader, Honorable Owan Eno , Chairman, Committee on Appropriation, House of Representatives.

The event which will be chaired by Mr. Mike Igini, the Cross River State Electoral Commissioner has, Senator Liyel Imoke as the guest of honor.
