Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has emerged the winner of the Academy for Entrepreneurial Studies’ Best Goveror Award for 2013.

The award which is a yearly recognition for transformational leadership was bestowed on Governor Imoke for his sterling effort at facilitating rapid infrastructural and human development in Cross River state.

At the 4thh Annual CEOs Dinner/Awards Nite which held at the Golden Gate Restraunt, Ikoyi Lagos, President of AES, Dr. Ausbeth Ajagu said Governor Imoke emerged winner after a thorough and rigorous verification exercise involving undisclosed visitations to all the 36 states to assess developmental strides of the governors which was done without their knowledge.

He lauded the governor for his inclusive leadership quality which has not only empowered the youths but also ensured that they are part of the governance process.

Ajagu particularly hailed Imoke for putting Nigeria on the world tourism map through his silent but aggressive
development of the tourism infrastructure.

Governor Imoke who delivered a lecture on the theme: “Peace as a Panacea for national development”, thanked the organizers for the award.

He said he was particularly surprised to have been singled out for the recognition.

While dedicating the award to the entire Cross Riverians, he said: “The accolade conferred on me today represents the dedication, hardwork and commitment that all Cross Riverians have shown as we work together to advance the fortunes of the state. We as public servants are merely custodians of the process of driving development. Therefore, this award is not for me but for the wonderful people of Cross River State whom I have had the amazing privilege to serve.”

Governor Imoke particularly acknowledge the foresight and capacity of the organizers of the event and the judges of the award “for contributing to the improvement of governance standard in the country by setting a benchmark against
which the performance of public office holders can be assessed.”
