A former Chief Press Secretary to Governor Imoke and former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Cross River State Council, Mr. Omini Oden has said that, it amounts to ingratitude for anyone from Cross River North to doubt the sincerity of Imoke’s promise to produce his successor from the northern part of the state.

In an update on his facebook timeline, Omini said the governor has as a true and real leader spoken publicly about it. He added that the governor has also positioned the north through strategic appointments from time to ensure that they synergize to deliver on this mandate.

The update reads, “For anybody from Cross River North to doubt Senator Liyel Imoke’s sincerity to produce his successor from Cross River North is to say the least ingratitude. He has as a true and real leader spoken publicly about it. In a very strategic and crucial PDP meeting in the state it is confirmed amidst press releases.

“You may call it anything but Liyel Imoke has also positioned the north from time to ensure that they synergies to deliver on this. How? This is the roll call of Cross River North from Federal to the state as much as my little brain can remember or recall; 1. Senator Ben Ayade 2. Dr. Rose Oko 3. Hon. Frank Adah 4. Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo 5. Obol Paul Adah etc.

“At the state level the north occupies some of the choicest appointments, 6. Speaker Cross River House of Assembly 7. SSG 8. Head of Service 9. Commissioner for Works 10. Commissioner for Local Government Affairs 11. Commissioner for Youths and Sports 12. Special Adviser Budget 13. Special Adviser Investment 14. Special Adviser Due Process 15. Special Adviser Chieftaincy Affairs 16. Chairman IRS 17. DG CROMA 18. DG CRISSA 19. DG SEMA 20. DG SMEDAN 21. Chairman Civil Service Commission etc.

“I am very sure I have not exhausted the list or reeled out half of it. Even if the party decides to throw it open to a competitive contest, why should the north loss the Governorship bid now? God forbid!!!

“It is time the north come together fast and swift to tie up it loss bundle of broom firmly together. It is only a well tied bundle of broom that sweeps well, whether new or old. We must firm up now I appreciate all the moves and scheming but it should be a lot sharper. The faster the nuts are tied firmly the better.

“The more people will not imagine they should even rear their heads not to talk of mention or dream of it elsewhere of being Governor after Imoke, except from Cross River North. When we firm up well and fast, it becomes a lot easier.”

He commended the effort of the northern elders and its people towards producing the next Governor.

It will be recalled that the ruling PDP in an expanded caucus meeting in Calabar zoned the governorship of the State to the Northern senatorial district, the only one yet to produce a governor of the state.

However, Mr. Gershom Bassey, one of the ‘three wise men’ of Cross River politics from the southern senatorial district who is purported to be the third leg of the so called Lagos Accord is also angling to contest the post with the north and he has since commenced consultations in that direction.
