The Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke has been commended for the harmonization of the Unified Local Government Pension System in the State.
State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Comrade Godwin Ayendi gave the commendation while addressing those charged with implementing the harmonized pension in the Unified Local Government System.
Ayendi said that, the approval and subsequent implementation of the pension was a clear indication that the Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke truly cares and has the interest of the pensioners at heart.
He said that, though the retired staff of the Unified Local Government System are not members of NULGE as retirees, they contributed their active years of service positively to the state.
Ayendi, who is also a member of the Local Government Pension Board, said that with the harmonization exercise being implemented, the affected pensioners were bound to heave a sigh of relief.
He described the various programs of the Imoke led administration as people oriented adding that, “since the emergence of the present day Cross River State, no administration has taken such a bold step to create integrated rural development which features the basic necessities of life”.
The NULGE chieftain was also full of praises for the Governor for promoting the needed peace which has enhanced the security of the state adding that all these outstanding achievements and qualities, have won for him a distinguished National Award for the year 2013 by the NULGE Leadership at the national level.
On staff discipline, Comrade Ayendi said that, full discipline has returned to the various council areas as his union, in liaison with the Njar Nkang Abang led Local Government Service Commission, have through monitoring exercises, brought sanity back to the system.
