The 5th Obudu International Mountain Race Championship 2013 which took place on the 23rd November in Obudu Mountain Resort has come and gone but the mountain slide that occurred by the entrance of the road leading to Obudu Cattle Ranch Resort lies in wait for government’s attention.
It will be recalled that shortly before the last Mountain Race Competition which usually takes place in the serene Obudu Cattle Ranch Resort commenced last year, there was a major landslide that erupted and left mud and rocks precariously blocking the entrance to the resort at two different locations.
In order to have the event, the state government hurriedly cleared the blockade in an emergency move that only cleared debris from a section of the road only to give access to visitors and athletes; many months after, nothing has been done to properly clear the impending danger and return that place to status quo.
While on a working visit to the ranch recently, CrossRiverWatch team were shocked to see that such a strategic tourist destination could still be such an eyesore many months after that unfortunate incident.
As at press time, our reporter was still unable to get officials to react to the development.
