To keen observers of Students Unionism in Cross River State, protests, botched plans, accusations of financial recklessness, name calling and ‘nato’ (slang for thwart) has been the order for some time now.
The most recent been the botched planned inauguration of the new Executives of the National Association Of Nigerians Students Joint Campus Commission(NANS-JCC) Cross River State axis scheduled for October 16, 2014 at the Federal Secretariat.
On arrival at the venue, CrossRiverWatch learnt the ceremony which was earlier billed for 10 a.m. had been shifted to 12noon due to ”unsettled issues” with only a handful of students present.
At 2p.m. there was no sign of the electoral body or executives to be sworn in except Ntol Augustus the General Secretary Elect, leading some present to believe they had joined the zonal body which prior to the event had relocated the Zonal Secretariat to Calabar to settle the same ”issues”.
Our Correspondent at the venue put a call through to the Chairman, Central Planning Committee, Comrade Samuel Ben who assured that the event will go on as planned as they were treating issues which he declined to name.
Our correspondent left the venue at about 4.30 pm when staff of the secretariat asked him to as work had closed for the day. We gathered from a source at the venue that the Ten Thousand Naira which was paid for the venue had also been wasted since it was not going to be refunded.
As at press time, the Chairman Elect, and Chairman Central Planning Committee could not be reached for comments on why the event was botched as both did not pick their calls.
