The Labor Party House of Representatives Candidate for Bakassi/Akpabuyo/Calabar South Federal Constituency in Cross River State, Hon. Dominic Aqua Edem, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
Hon. Aqua who is also a former Commissioner representing Cross River State in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC was said to have been kidnapped at about 9pm last night by heavily armed gunmen who invaded his Calabar home at Essien Street, Calabar South.
The State Police spokesman was not immediately available for comments but a police source told CrossRiverWatch that the police has been informed of the development and they are on the trail of the kidnappers.
When CrossRiverWatch contacted the State Labor Party Chairman, Mr. Austin Ibok, he blamed the PDP led government in the state for the upsurge of violent crimes in the state particularly during this election period.
“I think that it is the PDP controlled state government that will have to explain to Cross Riverians what is really going on. This phenomena is strange to our state. This is the first time since 1998 that we are going to have a truly competitive election in the state and I think the PDP is not comfortable with that. We in the opposition, particularly Labor have become targets of these bandits and Cross Riverians should hold the PDP led government responsible for this ugly development.” He said.
