Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke has commended the people of the state for their peaceful conduct during the just concluded general elections.
Imoke was also full of gratitude to the people for voting for the candidates of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in all the elections.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Christian Ita, the governor also congratulated all those who won their elections, particularly the Cross River State governor-elect, Senator Ben Ayade, noting that the outcome of the poll was a clear manifestation of the express will of the people of Cross River State.
He therefore, urged the people to extend the support given to him in the last eight years to the incoming governor and his deputy, Professor Ivara Esu.
Governor Imoke who lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the free, fair and transparent conduct of the governorship and house of Assembly polls, said once again, Cross Riverians have demonstrated that Cross River remains the fortress and base of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Governor Imoke particularly, charged the incoming government to build on the legacy of peace and security which the state has become renowned for.
According to him, “If there was one thing we have enjoyed in the last eight years, it is peace, cooperation and stability, without which we would not have made any significant economic progress as a state. This is why I am calling on all Cross Riverians to get behind the incoming government and ensure that the administration succeeds in delivering the democratic dividends.”
Governor Imoke further enjoined the governor-elect and his deputy to build on the legacy of sustained economic development of the outgoing administration so that the state can continue to occupy a pride of place among the leading economies in the country by 2020.
