Information reaching CrossRiverWatch has it that some youths of Esighi village, Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State have engaged and killed four militants as well as rescued three boats. The incident sources maintain took place in the early hours of Saturday May 23, 2015, when a group of young men from Esighi community, trailed and killed four armed militants and rescued a boat, seized on April 25, 2015 by the militants.
According to one of the Esighi boys who spoke on conditions of anonymity, “we have been looking for these militants but today we finally caught them and the boat. When they saw us, we jumped into the river. We were swimming to their location without their notice and we struggled until they killed one of us but we eventually killed four of them with their guns”.
According to them, the community had earlier accused the Esighi boys of being responsible for the April 25 incident which triggered them to prove their innocence by laying siege for them, a community leader said, “We have reported the captured boat to security agencies but they are joking with our lives”.
It will be recalled that on April 25, 2015, some armed militants attacked a Cameroon bound boat and stripped passengers’ nude robbing them of their belongings in the process.
