Cross River governor Benedict Ayade says the University system determines the direction any society heads as it is the fulcrum upon which society is built.

Ayade made this known today in his remarks while receiving the governing council of the University of Calabar, UNICAL led by the Chairman Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu on a courtesy visit to the governor in his office in Calabar.

Senator Ayade who promised to partner the institution in several ways said societies are grown based on morality with the University as the ecclesiastical barometer.

He urged Universities to emphasize on ethics, work and values as opposed to wealth and lifestyle as this is what made some elites argue against the black man painting the picture of “a primitive greedy person whose pleasure is sitting around the fireplace perhaps practicing cannibalism” which the governor described as mundane since new researchers have shown the black man has a place in history.

Commending UNICAL for stamping out cultism, Ayade also charged Universities to build on values saying “Your focus should be on ethical attitude and ethical conduct as the University provides a moulding ground, that mould that forms a child, that creates hope and aspirations that builds the society which is equally about morality. Until that value is instilled in a child you would have failed. It is therefore your duty that the University sticks to that morality that we once knew”.

Earlier, Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu who led the delegation in his remarks, termed the Ayade administration as ‘formidable’ noting that “This is a very formidable team, a team that will help us realize our goals, our goal of transforming this state from a state where everybody is looking for job in UNICAL or other MDAs, to a state where people will transform all the enormous potential the good Lord has given to us, into a state where employment opportunities will be in excess so that young men and women who graduate will not be walking around the streets looking for jobs as the potentials are enormous”.

Iwuanyanwu who disclosed the institution was going to propose partnership to tap into the vast agricultural and aquatic potential the state is blessed with also stressed its necessity as all over the world, governments partner with universities which has led to success in most cases.
