The Cross River State House of Assembly has commended the State Governor Senator Ben Ayade for the establishment of ‘Operation Skolombo’ a security task force aimed at clearing the streets of Calabar of miscreants and street urchins who have become a clear and present threat to the peace and security of the residents of the state capital and the state at large.

The House after taking a motion on “The state of insecurity in Cross River State” by Hon. Steven Ukpukpen of the Obudu state constituency under matters of urgent public interest, during plenary on Tuesday 7th July, 2015 resolved that:

The State Security Adviser (SSA) to the governor and State Commissioner of Police should liaise with other security agencies to ensure that more proactive measures are put in place to check and forestall the perpetrators of criminal activities across the length and breadth of the state and our water fronts.

That those known to be responsible for the continued violence and mayhem unleashed on law abiding citizens should immediately be apprehended and made to face the law as a deterrence to others.

That the Chairman House Committee on Security should interface with all relevant security agencies in the state so as to keep the House abreast of the security situation in the state for prompt legislative action as may be required.

The motion was seconded by Hon. Ogana Lukpata, member representing Yala 2 state constituency and Deputy Whip of the Assembly.

CrossWatch should as a matter of urgency investigate the genuiness or otherwise of a facebook page/account hoisted in the name of His Excellency, Benedict Ayade. I suspect foul play as the operator uses the page to defraud unsuspecting Cross Riverians seeking for jobs. Thank you.

This is a social problem. Applying a military solution to a social problem will only make it worse. These children need psychosocial reform and reunification with family. We did a baseline survey and were astounded as to why some of these children are on the streets. From simple misunderstandings to theft to a new stepmother. It is wrong tar all of them with the same brush.
