Staff at the newly-built Calabar International Convention Center have been without salaries for the past 6 months CrossRiverWatch has gathered.
This ugly situation was made known when our reporter visited the center earlier this week.
One of the workers who spoke with our reporter said, “We are highly disappointed because this is my first sad experience since I joined the center, we have not been paid since July and this unfortunate situation has slowed down the setting up of the operations and marketing in readiness for hosting many high profile conferences already booked to hold at CICC”.
Another staff of the center said he has been forced to borrow money to meet his immediate financial needs due to non-payment of the salaries. “As I am talking to you now, no one has told us why our salaries have not been paid,” he said.
The workers expressed dismay over the sad situation and are appealing to the state Governor Senator Ben Ayade to quickly come to their rescue and salvage the situation.
