The member representing Boki II Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Hilary Bisong says that he has fulfilled almost all of his promises in 14 months.
Bisong told CrossRiverWatch in an exclusive interview on his experience so far as a legislator that he has carried along his constituency in all his dealings since his inauguration as a member of the 8th Assembly to represent Boki II constituency.
“When I came on board I formed an advisory council made up of intelligent people in my constituency to develop an action plan, and a major part of it was to build the capacity of thirty youths in skills acquisition, and let me announce to you that we trained fifty instead in different blue-chip skills like painting, tilling, plumbing, baking, event management and decoration” Bisong said.
The Special Assistant to former Governor Liyel Imoke on student’s affairs said he has toiled vigorously to fulfill his promises. He said that a process of securing take-off grants for constituents through the National Directorate of Employment was ongoing with the intention of not just training them and leaving them, but, “To make them self sustaining”.
Disclosing his contribution to the maintenance of peace in his constituency, Bisong said that has been achieved “With the institution of an advisory with representatives from every ward in the constituency”.
Also, he added that this advisory council that use his constituency office as their headquarters acts as peace builders at the local level as they hold council meetings and nip crisis in the bud before they escalate and called on others to emulate this as “People in that level seem to know each other and therefore act accordingly to tame crisis”.
Bisong who was in the news of late for attempting an impeachment move on the Speaker of the House of Assembly also pledged that he will do all he can within his powers to legislate for policies that will bring positive development to his constituency.
