Following the recurrence in gangstar wars which has left many dead, the Obol Lopon of Ugep, Obol Ofem Ubana today declared war against gangstars vowing to root them out and hand them over to relevant authorities for prosecution.
Ugep, the central town of Yakurr local government area is about 100 kilometres north of Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
Obol Ofem made the declaration in a meeting with his subjects where he warned all to desist from acts of violence and disclosed that; “The police have arrested 13 suspects for now, it is only one that was release that was not guilty.”
“Other suspects have run away, anytime they come back they will be arrested. Also, any politician that buys guns for our youths will be arrested. I will use the Anti cultist squad to arrest all of them and I will drive any stranger who encourages my community members to commit evil.
“People called me all sort of names, now they are calling me a cultist (Axe man) because I use my palace guards to assist the police to arrest the suspects in (the) Viking confraternity.
“One of my palace guards who they said he is a cult member of Axe men has denounced cultism in the law court. And I will like to use this medium to tell all cyclist riders and businessmen and women to close their business before 12 midnight or else they will be arrested by policemen.
“From today henceforth I stop all sailing or jollying and shooting of guns in any cult members burial’” he said.
CrossRiverWatch gathered that the declaration was informed by the recent killing of a member of the Neo Black Movement, popularly referred to as Black Axe by members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity 3 weeks ago.
Our Correspondent reports that the war began when Viking walked into a partying group of Axe men and was beaten mercilessly. He then reported to his colleagues who now plotted to attack some Axe men drinking at ‘Under the Cocoa’ beer parlor which left one dead with his body still not found three weeks later.
The Axe men waited patiently for a week and having not seeing their colleague, decided to attack the Vikings which prompted the Obol Lopon to invite the Police to arrest suspects connected to the alleged murder and disappearance.
