Boys may soon be taught issues on gender equity in a bid to ensure that the goals set for the celebration of the International Women’s Day (IWD) are achieved says the Coordinator of the Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI), Mrs. Comfort Ikpeme.
Mrs. Ikpeme stated this in Calabar while speaking on topical issues program, ‘The Dialogue with Agba Jalingo’ which airs every Sunday on Hit 95.9FM.
She averred that there will be a conflict of ideas if the focus was to be only on the girls as they will still go back to reintegrate with the boys.
Mrs. Ikpeme posited that women have contributed a lot in their various fields and this year’s International Women Day is hoping to ensure that they empower more women.
The IWD is celebrated every year on March 8 with the aim of promoting gender equity. And, Mrs. Ikpeme says at GPI which is a non-governmental organization focused on girl’s empowerment, boys will soon be incorporated as they need information on the need for gender equity.
