The Chairman of the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) branch of the Senior Staff Union in Nigerian Universities, Mr. Rowland Takon has died aged 55.

Mr. Takon died last weekend after sustaining injuries on Saturday morning along Calabar – Odukpani highway in a car crash CrossRiverWatch gathered.

This was barely 24 hours after he had convened a meeting in the Calabar campus of the Varsity announcing the suspension of the strike action by the union which lasted for 3 months.

He was travelling to attend a burial, colleagues told CrossRiverWatch.

As at press time, details surrounding his death were still sketchy as the union and the Varsity’s management are yet to issue a statement on his death.

He was the desk officer of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) in CRUTECH and is said to have been vying for the zonal head of the union in an elections billed for next month.
