A bill seeking to establish a federal polytechnic in Ikom local government area of central Cross River State has scaled through the first reading after been read in plenary on Wednesday on the floor of the Senate.
The bill was sponsored by the senator representing the central senatorial district, John Owan-Enoh.
And, Mr. Owan-Enoh took to his Facebook page to explain the reason for the bill.
“This is in fulfillment of my promise to increase access to higher Education for my Constituents and Cross Riverians in general,” he wrote.
There are two major federal tertiary institutions in the state; the University of Calabar in Calabar and the Federal College of Education in Obudu while the National Open University of Nigeria has a campus in Calabar and a study center in Ikom.
