The former Cross River Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Attah Ochinke has said lawyers from the state and neighboring Akwa Ibom should shelve the idea of contesting for the position of the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Ochinke who said this will not only promote injustice as it will annoy lawyers from the South East disclosed this during an interactive session with lawyers during the law week of the Calabar branch of the NBA.
The former prosecutor said the southeastern lawyers had supported the presidential aspirant adopted 6 years ago by the Eastern Bar Forum based on its tradition of adoption to prevent a raucous election.
He argued that equity and natural justice demanded that if the EBF has zoned the position to the southeast, then there was need for legal practitioners in the south south to rally around that person.
Mr. Arthur Obi Okafor, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is said to have been adopted by the EBF.
And, Ochinke said he expects the southeast to reciprocate when it is the turn of the south south even as he hoped that those who had ambitions to the contrary wait for the due time.
