In the spirit of the 2019 general elections, the Lead Pastor of Honey Streams Christian Centre, Pastor Akomaye Ugar has called on youths in Cross River State to be aware of the leaders they want to elect into different offices and to make their preferences based on previous track records.
Pastor Ugar who is also an author and international leadership development speaker gave this mandate while speaking to youths at the Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo over the weekend during the School of Purpose event hosted by the institution.
According to him, “Youths should consider things base on the perspective of where we must go to as a Nation, Nigeria and again our obligations should be base upon our actual research and knowledge of track records of the leaders that are campaigning for our support. Let the youths be all out and let’s choose our preferred change”.
The School of Purpose, which is an annual event organized by the Honey Streams Christian Centre made its first visit to Arthur Jarvis University since its inception and had a warm welcome from both students and staff of the institution.
Pastor Akomaye Ugar enjoined the youths present at the event to adapt what they are taught in school into the society, stating that they must desire to go beyond their local environment and make impact at the global level.
“It is important for us to adapt what we learn into the society. Potential alone is not enough to guarantee your success. It is not your skill but your capacity that people look out for so build your capacity to speak to people on the global level; develop international standards for your local product. The proof of desire is pursuit, understand the principles of protocol; seek for the principles and engage them progressively. In the process of transformation, you may not be noticed but when the transformation happens, it cannot be ignored,” the clergy man said.
Earlier, while receiving the delegation of the event organizers, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Ani Nkang lauded the initiative of the Pastor and the Ministry to reach out to youths in this dimension, stating that the importance of this event cannot be overemphasized.
Prof. Nkang posited, “Interactions like this is important; talks like this will keep you away from certain vices, in the context of Christian living. Here in Arthur Jarvis, our goal is to train people that will be competitive; people that will use their brain, not just carrying certificate”.
He concluded by revealing that his institution is open for such self development and awareness programs.
The event which was tagged ‘EVOLVE’ focused on the need for youths to build capacity, pursue their desired goals with positive focus and be highly disciplined in order to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the society.
