The New Generation Party (NGP) candidate for Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency in the just concluded 2019 National Assembly election, Dr. Asu Yakubu Shendam, has withdrawn his earlier petition at the Election Tribunal and Appeal Court and has also congratulated his opponent, Hon. Chris Agibe who emerged winner during the polls.
Shendam stated this in Calabar while briefing newsmen on Thursday on the outcome of the election that was held on February 23.
“I want to make it very clear that the election was marred with irregularities an malpractice but i have decided to tore the path of peace and to be my brother’s keeper.
“Although, Agibe don’t reach out to people but I have decide to reach out to him. Election is not a do or die affair so I am congratulating him on his victory today.
“By so doing, I have withdrawn my petition concerning the election. I will wait for another time and victory will come. Let me pay more attention now on helping His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade on achieving his developmental plan and Signature Projects which is more important to me and all of us.
“As Special Adviser to the Governor, it’s important I remain focus, my party NGP is in support of the state government programmes and you may recall that in the just concluded Gubernatorial polls we delivered 100%,” he said.
When asked if he is lobbying the Governor for a commissioner position in the new cabinet considering his level of political exposure as a National Chairman of a political party in the country and former National Youth President of Nigeria an as well a Delegate to the 2014 National conference, Shendam Said, well appointments are solely the decision of the Governor.
“I will be happy an eternally grateful to him but like i said, I want to be focus now and work hard for Ayade’s second term to be very successful.
“All this ongoing projects will be completed in the next 1 year because I strongly believe that the governor mean well for the State.
“Gov. Ayade is a workaholic. I have known him like this before he got to Senate and now Governor. I must commend his industrialization drive in the state,” he added.
