Professor Charles Effiong Foundation has taken its violence against children to Community Technical College, Ikot Effanga Mkpa Calabar Municipal Cross River State to sensitize the students on the need to speak out whenever they are abused.
The foundation’s Child Protection Vocal Person, Asari Nakanda, addressing the students, pointed out the effects of child abuse and urged the students not to keep silence as it is the fastest way to die adding that children who are abused later in future become abusers.
“Child abuse can be carried out by anybody, even your own classmate can abuse you. Every single time you are been abused, something happens to you; it is going to affect your academics, your health, your wellbeing and it is going to affect the society as a whole because children who been abused end up becoming abusers. When a child is abused, the child’s psychology is affected and so the child cannot function properly in the society.” She said.
In the same vein, the school’s Counselor, Mrs. Oyo Victoria, thanked NGO saying the sensitization is timely. She therefore called on every child who is abused to open up and get help rather than keeping mute.
Her words: “Some of them, because the environment you find yourselves, you find it difficult to open up but those few of them who open up, we help them. This sensitization is very timely because I know some of you are living in one form of situation that may need help or the other; I hope you will be able to come out and speak out.”
In appreciation, the Senior Prefect of the school who spoke on behalf of other students, Master Joseph Joseph, thanked the organizers for the good work. He therefore urge his fellow students to air out whenever they are molested.
