A new fish and poultry farm, ‘Kuciano Farm’ has just been opened for business in Obudu, Northern Cross River State.
The farm which opened with fourteen thousand (14, 000) birds, is also the first of it kinds to produce Tilapia Fish around Cross River State and it’s environs.
Kuciana farm is fully equipped with a feed mill where they produce their own feeds from raw materials, some locally sourced.
The farm also boasts of a waste cycler which recycles the chicken waste to dry organic manure.
The Farm Manager, Dr. Jude Undiandeye, told CrossRiverWatch that “the farm will commence harvesting at least, 400 crates of eggs daily, from the 14, 000 layers, from first week of May, 2019.
“10, 000 broilers are arriving next week. We also have fish ponds in the farm housing 1000 Tillapia and 4000 Cat fish. Tillapia is not produced around Cross River and its environs. Kuciano is using it as a test case. If the market is good enough we increase.
“Kuciano is a one-stop farm where you can access fresh chicken, fresh eggs and fish.” He said.
Though, the new business has been able to bridge unemployment gap, staffing over twenty four people, the management also has urged the State Government to wade in by providing the basic amenities like good roads, electricity and water, lamenting that “over six thousand naira is spent daily on diesel to generate power.”
