The Police have arrested two persons in connection with the death of two suspected members of the Vikings confraternity in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrest to Punch Newspaper on Tuesday, adding that the incident occurred on Monday.

“Two persons died and two suspects have been arrested in connection with the clash. The Commissioner of Police has deployed officers there and they have restored normalcy,” Ugbo stated.

She said efforts were being made to arrest other suspects, who fled the town after the incident.

It was gathered that members of a splinter group within Vikings, known as the Bagars or Aro, clashed among themselves, resulting in the death of two persons, one on Monday and another allegedly killed by a mob on Tuesday.

The Permanent Secretary in charge of security in the Governor’s Office, Sir Alfred Mboto, also confirmed the incident, saying he was informed about the renewed gang clash by the Paramount Ruler of Yakurr, Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng.

Mboto said the State Commissioner of Police, Uche Anozia was immediately informed and he mobilised Policemen to Ugep to restore normalcy.
