Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has signed into law, the bill seeking to establish the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) and other matters connected therewith.
Law Number 2 of 2020 of the Cross River State House of Assembly repeals the old law (CAP C19 Laws of Cross River State Government 2004) setting up the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) and establishes UNICROSS.
Documents obtained by this reporter shows that Mr. Ayade assented to the bill sponsored by the Leader of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Peter Odey (Ogoja, PDP) on February 6, 2021.
This means that CRUTECH will now become UNICROSS which according to the lawmaker is a welcome development.
“I will like to thank the Governor and everyone who worked with us on this because this is a step forward for us,” Mr. Odey told this reporter via telephone.
He said that: “With this, they can now offer admission for people to study law and medicine.”
He explained that the Varsity as it is currently structured would not have had accreditation for some courses by October which would not have bode well and expressed optimism that the future was bright.
