The Chairman of Cross River State Traditional Rulers Council, His Majesty Etiyin Okon Edet has stated that, even though power is coming to the Southern senatorial district of the State, the Council will ensure that a mediocre doesn’t to run the State come 2023.

His Majesty Etiyin Okon Edet who is the Paramount Ruler of Bakassi Local Government Area bared his mind when Code 888, a political group paid him a courtesy visit at his office.

His colleagues from Yakurr, Boki and Biase where present in the meeting where discussions were tailored towards having someone who will serve the State in honesty.

The monarch who praised Governor Ayade’s effort in acquiring the aircraft for CallyAir said, “Today I’m sure you are all aware of CallyAir which at times some people were thinking that is funny story is a reality today, how? We do not know. So, we need somebody that has that type of capacity and vitality to come in and run this State, particularly, if you are coming from a family that has no money, you must be so determined to go to school, use your intellect and all that you have to burn the night to get it right, with the hope that when you get it right then, the sky will be your limit.

Members of Code 888 who attended the courtesy visit.

“The fact about Cross River State is that it is one of the poorest State in the federation, so we need people with knowledge, wisdom, genuine to carry on the work, as it is, it is very hard to govern Cross River State and so not just anybody, yes, thank you so much for saying that the power must come to the South. We all Traditional Rulers in the State, we can assure you that we are not going to be behind, but we are going to be in the forefront because whatever step you guys are taking, we are following-up.”

He went further to reveal that, “We did an agreement during the second campaign of Ayade, a lot of people came to us in the South from the North when it appeared as if something was going to happen. The delegation was led by Brigadier General Ukpo (rtd) and pleaded with us, we signed further agreement that we are going to support the North to go two times and so this your Code 888 is well coded, let justice be done in the case of Ayade.”

Earlier, the Director General of Code 888, Mr. Maurice Nkong said the essence of the visit is to ask for royal blessing as they begin to go to the field to consult with stakeholders.

According to him, “By the grace of God we had the support of everyone across the State especially, those from the South, and we came back as a group and said we should pay back the South for that support. Although some groups are saying that the Governor can come from anywhere.

“We are saying for the North to be able to produce the Governor in 2015 the South sacrificed its ambition because there were qualified people from the South to contest in that election but they stepped down because it was agreed within the PDP.”

Mr. Nkong who is an Ogoja son and Governor Ben Ayade’s appointee recalled that “in 2014 there was a meeting of the stakeholders where it was agreed that power should move to the North, Honorable Nkoyo Toyo moved the motion that they should allow power go to the North but with an agreement that after the North, the power would again return to the South. Ugani David Ashang seconded the motion and so it is time for us to keep to that promise.”
