All is set for the interment of late Dr. Esther Onoyom-Ita, the Executive Director of Society for Youth Development and Rescue Initiative (SYDRI) who passed on after a protracted illness last year.
In a public announcement made available by the Director of SYDRI, Emmanuel Onoyom-Ita, there will be interdenominational funeral service “rest from above” on Saturday, 22 January, 2022 at Hope Waddell Training Institution field by 10am while interment follows at her residence, No. 6 Ikot Uduak Layout off MCC by Timber market, Calabar.
Before she was called to yonder at the age of 68, Dr. Esther Onoyom-Ita was a Veterinarian, Banker, Entrepreneur, Baker, Fashion Designer and the Executive Director of Society for Youth Development and Rescue Initiative (SYDRI); an NGO which takes care of the vulnerable in the society.
She was an advocate for children and women’s rights, believed in family as the safest nest for a child. She engaged in street outreaches, care and support in a transit home, education, skill acquisition, economic empowerment of families, family reintegration and foster care for vulnerable children (street kids) and their families.
She is survived by three children, seven grandchildren among others to mourn her demise.
