The Cross River State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has stated that the party has always respected the zoning of political offices, but that it has to be done by elimination.
The disclosure was made by the Chapter Chairman, Mr. Venatius Ikem, who insisted that all the party candidates since 1999 were products of zoning, but that the candidates “achieved the positions not by agreeing on which zone to take on the table, but by eliminations in the field of contest.”
In buttressing his point, the former Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area said: “Donald Duke defeated Kanu Agabi in the field. And that Senator Liyel Imoke similarly defeated the rest of the contestants in the field.
“That when it was only the North left to complete the circle, there was no need to contest with the North.” He said.
Vena held that since the system of “zoning by elimination,” has “worked for us then it will work for us now and in the future and every zone will take its turn.”
