Sequel to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) extended eight weeks of strike and the recent Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions (NASU) strike, the management of the University of Calabar, UNICAL, has asked students to vacate hostels with immediate effect.
The directives issued by the Registrar of the institution, Mr. Gabriel Egbe noted that the action is imminent due to a non-teaching staff strike which will impact negatively if students continue to occupy the facilities.
“Consequently, the Acting Chief Security Officer has been advised to lock up all the hostels, as well as, deploy security men to man all halls of residence,” the circular directs.
The institution, however, wishes all students journey mercies as they travel home to meet their parents or guardians. They were further enjoined to take advantage of the strike period and engage in only activities that will add value to their lives.
