Councilors of the 18 Local Government Councils of Cross River State have threatened to dump the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and return to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, over what they described as “poor funding and no release of funds for their legislative activities,” by the Sen. Ben Ayade led Government.

The lawmakers, after a meeting held in Ikom Local Government Area, also agreed that they were going to commence the immediate impeachment of all the Local Government Chairmen in the State whom they said have refused to release what is entitled to them.

According to the lawmakers, over 150 Million Naira have been released to each Local Government Chairman as capital projects, yet no Councilor has been carried along.

They lamented that out of the 22 months they have been in office, they have only received Legislative votes for six months, a situation they described as “painful and worrisome.”

According to News Agency of Nigeria, NAN Correspondent, George Odok, other issues deliberated at the meeting by the Counselors include refusal of the State Government to accommodate Councilors in projects execution, none release of councilors furniture and wardrobe allowances.

Recall that, the Counsellors and Local Government Chairmen had followed Governor Ben Ayade to the APC after he decamped from PDP in May, 2021.
