Former Cross River Permanent Secretary, Four Others Resume As ICPC Commissioners

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday swore in a Cross Riverian, Mrs. Anne Otelafu Odey, and four others as Commissioners of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission, ICPC.

The swearing-in happened shortly before the commencement of the weekly virtual Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Villa in Abuja.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Mrs. Odey is a retired Permanent Secretary in the Cross River State Civil Service. She served in the Ministry of Education. She is representing the South-South geopolitical zone of the country on the ICPC’s Board.

She, alongside her colleagues, was appointed in September 2021 following the provision of Section 3(6) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Act, 2000. They were later confirmed by the Nigerian Senate.

The ICPC Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, prayed the new members to bring their experience to bear in the achievement of the Commission’s mandates.

Prof. Bolaji said, “ICPC is an integrity organization and the standard here is higher than the normal. What others do and get away with, if we do it, it will be big news.

“Your status has changed with your appointment and I am happy that all of you have a rich stint in public service. We have a rich blend that will help us achieve the mandate of the Commission. We should not get administration wrong when we have a rich blend of professional administrators to guide our mandate.”

Mrs. Odey told colleagues in the reception held by the Commission to welcome the new members, that she is ready to serve and work hand-in-gloves with the staff of the Commission to ensure the country gets better.

The other Commissioners are Senator Anthony Agbo from Ebonyi State who is representing the South-East geopolitical zone of the country, Alhaji Goni Ali Gujba, from Yobe State, is representing the North-East, Dr. Louis Solomon Mandama, from Adamawa State, is representing the North-East, and  Mr. Olugbenga Adeyanju, from Ekiti State, representing the South-West.
