Child Trafficking: Woman Imprisoned For Using Children To Beg In Calabar

A 35-year-old woman has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by a Court in Calabar, the Cross River State capital for using an underage to beg for alms.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, in a statement, said the Court found Glory Asuquo guilty of contravening the human trafficking laws.

The statement by the agency reads: “The Federal High Court sitting in Calabar, the Cross River State capital on 6th Day of June 2022 in two different cases convicted two human traffickers for contravening the human trafficking laws as contained in TIPPEA, 2015.

“Human trafficking and using children for alms begging in the streets of Calabar by one Glory, 35 years old who hails from Akwa Ibom State. The convict was sentenced to six (6) months imprisonment.”
