Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has appointed Bassey Okim, Esq. as the Senior Special Adviser on Security and Strategy.
This was contained in a statement by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Linus Obogo.
The statement said Mr. Okim’s appointment is with immediate effect.
If he accepts, this will be the second time in about a decade he will serve in the same role after he served as State Security Adviser to Governor Liyel Imoke in his first term in office.
Mr. Okim rejected Mr. Ayade’s appointment in 2016 after he defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In a statement credited to him and dated March 3, 2016, Mr. Okim wrote; “May I thank the State Government for this wonderful appointment but wish to state with their Excellency permission that I have since moved to APC. And since there is no unity government in the State, that appointment is with due respect rejected.”
He was at the time, appointed as a member of the Cross River State Boundary and Conflict Advisory Council.
Also, CrossRiverWatch had in January 2017 reported that following a petition by rights lawyer and former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on prosecution, Barrister Okoi Obono-Obla, Mr. Okim, alongside serving federal lawmakers, Hon. Alex Egbonna and Hon. Jude Ngaji who served as Governor Imoke’s Chief of Staff and Deputy respectively were invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for their alleged roles in some projects by that administration.
