The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is set to end the continuous voter registration exercise on July 31, 2022.

The National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, Esq. said the decision was reached after an extraordinary session held on Friday 15 July 2022.

Mr. Festus said the continuous voter registration exercise is “hereby extended for another two weeks until Sunday 31 July 2022, thereby bringing the total duration of the extension to 31 days.

He further added that it has also been extended to eight hours daily from 9am – 5pm daily instead of the current duration of 9am-3pm, and also extends the days to include Saturdays and Sundays as against only weekdays.

The Commission, therefore, called on registrants to avoid the rush in the two-week extension, and appealed to “eligible citizens not to wait until the last few days before they inundate the centers again to register,” as INEC reiterates its commitment to credible and transparent elections in 2023 and beyond.
