The Chairman of Cross River State Pollution Control Agency, Barrister Tony Adinye has reportedly led some men of the Green Sheriff, an agency set up by Governor Ben Ayade for environmental policing has manhandled an orange seller, Mrs. Lucy Uket, and her daughter Miracle Uket.
According to the video shared online by Hit FM Calabar, Mr. Friday Awade, Mrs. Lucy, an indigene of Obudu LGA was said to have been beaten and her goods scattered by the Ayade appointee who came in company with men of the Nigerian Police.
The event happened along IBB way close to the Calabar Stadium. Lucy is seen in the video sobbing as she alleged that the officers of Green Sheriff and some touts accompanied by some policemen scattered her goods, and went away with the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand (250,000) Naira; money she collected from LAPO, a loan scheme.
She further alleged that after she and her daughter were beaten, the Police threw her daughter into the car booth and drove to Akim Police station alleging that she wanted to attack them with a knife.
She said her petty business is one of the few ways she takes care of her children and grandchildren with the little stipends she gets from her husband.
According to Friday Awade, on reaching out to the men of the Green Sheriff, they posited they are acting according to instructions and several warnings have been issued to the women and others selling oranges and other commodities by the roadside around the stadium area.
Her daughter, Miracle was released by 11pm yesterday from Akim Police station where she was detained.
Mr. Tony is yet to respond to calls from our newsroom. Similarly, LAPO has been contacted to authenticate the missing N250,000.
