Group Calls For Release Of Man Detained By Police On Order Of Gov. Ayade’s Commissioner, Jake Otu Enyia

By CrossRiverWatch Admin

A Commissioner in the current administration of Sen. Ben Ayade Cross River State, Barrister Jake Otu Enyia, Commissioner for Aviation has been chided over the arrest of Mr. Joe Osibu, for expressing his opinion about political insanity in Boki LGA of Cross River State.

Citizens Rights and Awareness Center (CRAC) said his fundamental human rights were violated in a press release calling for Osibu’s release.

The release reads in full:

“It has been brought to our notice that Mr. Joseph Obi Osibu who was called for questioning on Sunday, 2nd of October, 2022, the day of his child dedication by the Police was later arrested and detained as ordered by Chief Jake Otu who is the Cross River State Commissioner for Aviation.

“As of the time of this press release, without a fair hearing by the appropriate Court of competent jurisdiction to ascertain if indeed Chief Jake Otu has any case against him, Mr. Joseph Obi Osibu is still in Police custody and is been transferred to Abuja without proper trials on the grounds of defamation of character.

“We find this trending act of Government officials using the Nigerian Police Force to intimidate Citizens to the extent of transporting them to Abuja as derogatory, a gross violation of human rights, and uncalled for.

“As a body, we understand the implications of taking laws into your hand and we at this moment advise Chief Jake Otu to follow the due prosecution process in getting justice against Mr. Joe Osibu.

“We hereby demand the immediate and unconditional release of Joseph Osibu. That Chief Jake Otu takes the matter to the appropriate Court of competent jurisdiction to seek redress if indeed his rights were infringed upon. We cannot continue to be quiet as Citizens while Government officials; those who are supposed to protect our rights, daily spite us by abusing the privilege of being in positions of authority and violating our fundamental rights.”
