Days after 9 travelers were kidnapped at Okomita in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, another 3 have been abducted.
Two medical doctors and a contractor are the latest victims of kidnapping in the once most peaceful State of Nigeria.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Calabar branch, Dr. Felix Archibong has confirmed the abduction of his members, Channels TV reports.
While the Police are yet to comment on the issue, he explained that the incident happened in Akampa Local Government Area of the State. He called on security agencies and the State Government to do all they can to rescue the victims as kidnapping them will negatively impact health care delivery.
The third victim according to SaharaReporters is Anozeng Egbe, a Project Manager of Faith Global Int’l Services Ltd (a.k.a Faith Plant) was abducted by gunmen in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, also on Friday.
A witness, who refused to disclose his name for security reasons, said Egbe was abducted at about 9am on Friday when he went to brief his Chief Executive Officer, Micheal Asuquo, at his residence located inside Summit Hills Estate in Calabar Municipality.
According to the witness, the armed men numbering about five drove in a Honda SUV and wore black camouflage covered with black faze caps, and were well-armed.
Narrating the incident, he said: “The stern-looking gunmen had a bigger target, which was the CEO of Faith plant, Mr. Micheal Asuquo. But when they arrived at his gate, the security man asked them who they were and if they had an appointment with the Chief.
“They replied yes and added that one of his trucks was intercepted by them and they wanted to discuss modalities before the release of the said truck.
“The security man told them (the gunmen), to wait for him to confirm their appointment with his employer. While waiting at the gate, the company architect drove in to brief his boss on the day’s activities, the gunmen intercepted him and bundled him into their steaming vehicle, and zoomed off.”
The witness further said he observed that some of the gunmen had been carrying out surveillance in the area since 4am before zeroing in on Faith Plants’ residence.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Command, SP Irene Ugbo, said, “The incident happened at Summit Hill Estate off Mohammed Murtala Highway. We are working on it already.”
Security sources said they suspected that a new gang had entered the town and they would try to track them down.
One of the sources, however, revealed that they were handicapped by logistics support to go full blast in confronting the kidnappers that had been terrorizing the State recently.
