By Patrick Obia

A commercial motorcycle rider has been injured and his passenger dead in the early hours of Wednesday 16 November 2022 in an accident along the Scanobo axis, Ikot Ekpo, 8 Miles, Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of Cross River State.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke with Hitfm Calabar, the motorcycle rider was trying to dodge a stone while overtaking a truck when he lost control and stepped on it before getting hit by the truck he tried to overtake.

He survived, but his passenger died on the spot.

In another development, the Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of 8 out of 9 travelers kidnapped by alleged Fulani herdsmen on Tuesday 15 November 2022 along the Calabar-Ugep highway.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo told CrossRiverWatch that the eight victims were rescued at about 9:30 am today after the Commissioner of Police, CP Sule Balarabe dispatched a tactical team to comb the area.

The police spokesman said the abductors are not Fulani herdsmen as alleged but purely armed robbers.

“They are not herdsmen, it is purely an armed robbery case because they collected money, and phones from them but later returned their phones and even gave them transport; that they don’t want to hurt them but just need their money.

“One person escaped during the abduction; he escaped on his own. So it was just the eight rescued they took to their camp and collected money from them knowing that the police were on their way,” she said.
