NGYouthSDG Holds Dialogue on Youth and Democracy Participation In Calabar

By Ogar Monday

The right of women to have their say in the political processes has been identified as one of the key pointers to the growth of any nation’s democracy.

The consensus was reached at a Dialogue on Youth, Democracy, and Values held in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, and organized by NGYouthSDG, a network for youth for sustainable initiative.

Other than women’s participation, young persons were also encouraged to not put up their conscience for sale, but pursue and support a political course that ensures the overall betterment of society.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Goodness Odey, State Coordinator of NGYouthSDGs said the meeting was a dialogue amongst young persons to deliberate on their participation in politics and their role in the whole democratic process.

Goodness, held that elections are coming soon and there is a need to wake the conscience of young persons, to collect their PVCs, show up at the polling units, and cast their votes without selling the same for a pittance.

Participants at the dialogue praised the organizers of the event and promised to spread the message to those in their sphere of influence.

The highlight of the event was the screening of the movie ‘Halima’s Vote’ and the discussion around lessons from the movie. Participants also took a pledge to participate in the democratic process as active citizens.
