As the general elections beckons and Permanent Voters Card (PVC) collection intensifies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Cross River State has moved the collection of cards to ward levels, saying collection by proxy is not allowed.
This was contained in a press release signed by Head of the Department, of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Anthonia Nwobi, for the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC). It noted that the gesture is to enable those that are unable to collect from the local government level to do so with effect from Friday 6th to 15th January 2023.
Anthonia said, “after the 15th of January 2023, that is from Monday, January 16th, 2023, the exercise will revert to the 18 INEC Local Government Area Offices in Cross River State until Sunday 22nd of January, 2023.”
While enjoining eligible Cross Riverians to make use of the opportunity and obtain their cards, she reiterated that PVC collection is free.
The release reads: “Consequent upon the ongoing collection of PVCs in all the INEC Local Government Areas Offices in Cross River State, the general public is hereby informed that the Commission has devolved PVC collection to all the 193 Registration Areas also known as Wards in Cross River State from today Friday 6th to Sunday 15th January 2023. Those that are unable to collect their PVCs at the Local Government Offices of the State Commission can do so at the Registration Areas/Wards.
“After the 15th of January 2023, that is from Monday, January 16th, 2023 the exercise will revert to the 18 INEC Local Government Area Offices in Cross River State until Sunday 22nd January, 2023.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Cross River State hereby calls on the general public most especially all eligible and valid registrants who are yet to collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), including those who applied for transfer or replacement of their cards, to visit the Registration Area/Ward in the Local Government Area where the Polling Unit they chose to vote falls under to pick up their voters’ cards between the hours of 9 am to 3 pm daily including Saturdays and Sundays.
“Please note that collection by proxy is NOT allowed. PVC Collection is FREE!
“No PVC, no voting. Therefore, ensure you use this opportunity to collect your PVC as the last day for collection of PVCs for the 2023 general elections is Sunday, January, 22nd 2023.”
