Report reaching our newsroom has it that a 400-level student of Computer Science, University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Calabar campus has been shot dead.
The student identified as Vincent Lawrence Bepeh (he was first identified as Victor) with registration number 18/CSC/048, is alleged to have been gunned down by a female official of the Department of Security Services, DSS, at the school premises close to the Department of Biological Science, when he tried escaping arrest.
Vincent is said to be one of the notorious gang members declared wanted and has been on the tracklist of security operatives including the DSS.
At the time of filing this report students have scampered for safety, a team of soldiers and other security personnel had arrived the school while the corpse is still lying.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the Chief Security Office (CSO), Mr. Iwara referred CrossRiverWatch to the school Public Relations Officer, Mr. Onen Onen, saying he was not around.
However, the PRO – Onen confirmed the incident but said he can not ascertain if the student was killed by the DSS, adding that investigations are ongoing.
“I wouldn’t know who shot him, I wasn’t there. When it happened and I can’t say categorically; investigations are ongoing.”
