Cross River Chief Judge Pardon 58 Inmates, Commend Renovation Of Ogoja Court

By Patrick Obia

The Chief Judge of Cross River State, Justice Akon Ikpeme has granted the prerogative of mercy to fifty-eight (58) inmates in three custodial centers across the State.

The Chief Judge who is on a tour of correctional centers in the State visited the Afokang prison in Calabar South LGA, Ikom, and Ogoja prisons.

At the Afokang Correctional Center, 42 serving inmates were granted pardons; in Ikom, 6 were released while 10 were also set free at Ogoja.

Justice Akon said the exercise is an annual rite where the CJ uses her discretion to set inmates deemed fit free.

She said those granted pardon were on the account of age, type of offense committed, number of years served and remaining, health conditions, and among others.

In the same vein, the number one Lawyer in the State has commended the level and quality of renovation work done at the Ogoja Magistrate court.

While assessing the facility, she expressed satisfaction that the once dilapidated and forgotten Ogoja Magistrate court is renovated to modern standards.

Recall that last year, some good-spirited individuals took the bull by the horn to renovate the court after it was left abandoned for years.
