As the governorship polls draws near in Cross River State, a coalition made up of groups who were behind Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, have now declared their support for the governorship ambition of Senator Sandy Onor.
Onor, who is the Senator representing the Central Senatorial District is flying the flags of the People’s Democratic Party in the polls.
In a letter seen by CrossRiverWatch and signed by 12 leaders in the coalition, the group say they are throwing their weight behind the former Etung Council Chair after going through his manifesto and his pedigree.
The letter reads in part, “The decision to endorse and support Senator Sandy Onor was taken after a careful examination of the major contestants in the gubernatorial election and a critical perusal of their manifesto. The Coalition for Peter Obi (CPO) decided that their anchorage with the candidature of the PDP and Senator Sandy Ojang Onor is the only viable option in the interest of Cross Riverians in particular and the entire Cross River State in general.
“Sandy Onor’s sterling qualities and achievements in all the positions he has held ranging from the time he was elected as the Executive Chairman of Etung LGA through his tenures as a two-term Commissioner in the State, and as a sitting Senator representing the good people of Cross River Central Senatorial District, has proven that he is a man of his word and that he is capable of offering Cross Riverians better leadership.” The letter reads.
