Cross River State Government has said it is on the path to achieving universal health coverage, maintaining that it has made a huge investment that is yielding results.
Dr. Janet Ekpenyong, the State Commissioner for Health stated this during the 2023 World Health Day, and urged other states to emulate Cross River’s template of investing in the health sector as the state and the nation presses closer to actualizing “Universal Health Coverage”.
She said for the actualization of this year’s theme, “Health for All”, it’s imperative for state governments, organizations, and individuals to massively promote quality healthcare delivery, inclusiveness in facility patronage, and on-the-go professional services.
She noted that the massive investment in facility remodeling, building, renovation, and drug stocking in Cross River state is one gesture that every state government must imitate and showcase at every level as well as the recruitment of health personnel at all cadres.
Her words, “The state is on the right track to actualizing desired development to meet global standards and promote equitable healthcare for all.”
The former DG of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency added that World Health Day “is to remind us of the need to unite and make progressive moves towards total eradication of common diseases and illnesses.”
“Occasions like this create pathways for nations to achieve healthcare for all by employing all means to get stakeholders to invest in the health sector just like the gains we have recorded in Cross River State where today our people enjoy one of the best health services in our ultra-modern health facilities equipped with state of the art machines like what we have in Obudu Local Government Area the other two senatorial districts,” she said.
