A few days before the start of the English Premier League and other leagues across Europe in August, one of the biggest sporting events in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, Comrade Adamade Unity Cup 2023 10th edition has kicked off; bringing total entertainment both home and abroad.

Kicked off on the 3rd of August 2023, at the Obudu Township Stadium with a thrilling match between Adidas FC Obanliku and Nurtw FC Obudu.

The tournament, born a decade ago, has witnessed immense growth in dimension, purpose, audience, and has over the years impacted hugely in the areas of sport development and hunting for young talents.

The annual event has brought reputable football scouts led by former Super Eagles player and Coach, Samson Siasia among others to grace the finals of the tournament and scout brilliant, talented footballers who are going professionally.

According to the brainchild of the tournament, Comrade Adamade: “It is an open event that features talented footballers from not just Obudu LGA but from across the Country. This has made it possible for local players to play alongside other experienced players from distant places, most of them professional players. It has also been able to foster unity and dissolve the air of hostility that exists among many neighboring communities, LGAs, and States.”

Staged around August and climaxing a few days before the Obudu New Yam Festival, gives spectators and visitors to the festival a sense of recreation and excitement.

The organizers say this year’s tournament is not a “winner takes it all” event as every participating team smiles home.

“This year’s 10th Edition promises to feature more beautiful scenery and an improved general output. The Adamade Unity Cup is not a ‘winners takes all’ tournament as every participating team stands to benefit from the rich outline of sporting activities,” he added.
