Demand Accountability From Your Leaders – A Well-Informed Adolescent Initiative Charge Youths In Cross River

By Godwin Otang

Youths have been charged to demand accountability, civic participation among others from their leaders at all levels of governance especially in public offices.

The charge was part of efforts to cultivate civic responsibility and empowerment among youths of Cross River State and Nigeria, by a non-profit organization – A Well-Informed Adolescent Initiative.

And in a bid to foster a shared vision for the State and Nation, during a Youth Civic Engagement Summit under the Nigerian Youth Future Funds (NYFF) Project, young minds were told not to fold their arms and expect things to get better; hence, the need to probe their representatives.

During the summit, participants delved into insightful discussions in areas of accountability, civic responsibilities, community development, sustainable practices, effective advocacy, and civic participation.

In her address, the Commissioner for Commerce and Tourism in the State, Mrs. Abigail Duke Orok urged youths,  “to stand out and excel in your pursuits,” emphasizing that, “civic engagement encompasses both political and non-political processes, paid and unpaid activities”.

Experts and facilitators provided valuable insights, equipping attendees with practical knowledge to drive tangible change in their communities.

The Initiative successfully formed collaboration among young leaders in Cross River State.

Highlights of the event were the presentation of  ‘The Nigeria We Want’ document, by Mr. Pascal Omama; setting the stage for engaging panel discussions led by knowledgeable young leaders in Cross River State, questions and answer sessions, and others.
