The Cross River State Police Command says it has arrested a 24-year-old man, identified as Fode Bassey, in connection with alleged armed robbery, gang-related activities, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to the Command, the suspect was apprehended on April 1, 2026, following investigations into a robbery incident reported on March 29, 2026.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah Akata, police said the victim, identified simply as Edim, was attacked by four armed youths.
The assailants were reportedly armed with cutlasses and a firearm and allegedly inflicted injuries on the victim’s left hand while threatening to kill him if he resisted.
Police said the attackers made away with a bag containing a Delight solar battery valued at ₦185,000 and cash totaling ₦326,000.
Following the report, detectives tracked and arrested Bassey, who allegedly confessed during interrogation and identified himself and his accomplices as members of the Vikings Secret Cult Confraternity.
A locally fabricated pistol was also recovered from the suspect, police said.

The Command noted that investigations remain ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend other suspects linked to the incident.
Police urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to support ongoing security operations and criminal investigations across the state.
