Cross River Governor, Senator Bassey Otu on Saturday issued staff of office and certificates to the newly elected Paramount Rulers of Akamkpa, Ikom, and Obudu Local Government Areas in the State while promising better welfare for monarchs.
The trio were elected on different dates between September and November, following the sojourn of their predecessors.
In the case of Obudu, HRM Utsu Ukandi Felix Abanbeshie Okudare is the first Paramount Ruler of the Local Government after Nigeria gained independence in 1960. His predecessor, Uti JD Agba, assumed the throne in 1959 and reigned 64 years.
His colleagues are HRM Minen Takon Akangba for Ikom and HRM Obol Agbor Ewa for Akamkpa Local Government Area.
In his remarks, the Governor said the time for politics is over and governance is what he is focused on. He congratulated the new monarchs and pledged better welfare. He commended the State’s Traditional Ruler’s Council for allowing the State Executive Council to use its hall for Exco meetings.
The Governor also a time will come when he will give an account of his stewardship so far and promised no one will be left out in his administration.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council and Paramount Ruler of Bakassi, Etinyin Etim Edet Okon admonished the paramount rulers and reminded them of the cultural values and position they hold.
He admonished them to uphold cultural practices and traditions that made the State great, and charged the Governor to conduct Council Elections.
The Monarch, who lamented the state of palaces and Traditional Rulers Council chambers across the State, charged the politicians to do what is required as happy monarchs with boosted morale will translate to a better society.
